Flue Dilution systems are an alternative option to a standard conventional boiler flue, which may offer a solution to any potential termination issues encountered with a conventional flue.
The idea of Flue Dilution is to dilute the flue gases to less than 1% CO2 and 5ppm Nox in order for the flue gases to be safe for a low level or horizontal discharge. This is done by drawing fresh air in from an inlet louvre pulled in by a fan which is integrated within the flue ductwork. This fresh air dilutes the appliance waste gases before terminating through a discharge louvre. Approx. 10 parts air to 1 part flue gas.
Flue Dilution can be a great option to negate the need of rising throughout the full height of a building. Also if taller buildings are within the 5U radius, it would prevent the need to rise above these, providing we meet the separation distances required.
You can apply flue dilution to most modern boilers. However if needed on oil fired applications, sulphur content would need to be advised for us to calculate to see if possible.
Air is usually drawn in directly from the outside, however it can also be taken from the plant room (only as a last resort). This must be compensated by increasing the high and low level louvres sizes to allow more air into the plant room for boiler combustion process.

With flue gas dampers you can regulate the multi boiler applications where not all will be firing at any one time, which assists in avoiding a loss of energy while the boiler doesn’t operate or to successfully prevent any recirculation of exhaust gases from the other appliances in the multiple header systems.
